The Lowe Down on the Ethics Policy at DISD

As many of you aware, the Dallas Morning News ran a scathing story on DISD and how those who serve have received compensation through contracts, namely recently re-elected Board President Jack Lowe. This sent off a firestorm of discussion, especially since this was right before the school bond election.
Since that time, School Board Member Carla Ranger has asked that the district implement an ethics policy for board members and close relatives of board members. Makes sense to me. For some reason, this issue is yet to get a second so it can be discussed at the board level. I was told an ethics committee has been established to look into this. Well we know how these committees operate.

This is why the Dallas NAACP has voted to support a tough ethics policy to ensure that this issue never comes up again. It should be understood that if you serve on the school board or city council, you should not be allowed to get any contacts from the entity that you serve on.
Tell us what you think about this issue, and stay tuned for our plan of action.

Update: We are encouraging all NAACP members and the larger community to contact your DISD board member and Board President Jack Lowe by e-mail, regular mail, fax, and phone calls to let them know that the ethics policy must be placed on the agenda at the June board meeting, and they must pass it as presented by Board Member Carla Ranger. The DISD website is www.dallasisd.org and the phone # is 972-925-3700. We must not take no for answer. Check back for daily updates.

I commend the Dallas NAACP and Betty Culbreath, former President of the DFW Airport Board and current President of the Dallas Housing Authority Board for telling it like it is as it relates to Dallas ISD Board President Jack Lowe. Is Dallas ISD trustee Carla Ranger the only person on the Dallas ISD board that has the cojones to do the right thing? If so, please come back from your long lunch break like Betty says and do the responsible thing and strenghten the Dallas ISD Board Ethics Policy, now, not months from from now to study the issue until next Christmas. And while you guys are doing that please make those hundreds of morally challenged Dallas ISD employees who 'misused' their Dallas ISD issued p-cards to pay back the taxpayers of the Dallas ISD so the district can put those 'misused' Dallas ISD tax dollars where it should have used in the first place, on the students of Dallas ISD.

Why is it that test data labels African refugees as African Americans? Doesn't that put forth erroneous information about how African Americans are scoring?

Again, Dallas revisits its ethics policy. It is time to call for our trustees to do the right thing and abolish the "Jack Lowe Clause" that allows trustees to benefit financially from contracts with the district.

Call and write the board of trustees today if you want to see an ethics reform policy!
